Nothing Personal. It’s Just Business.

Start treating your social media like one

Should you use your social media business account to promote your personal opinions?

I’m sure you’ve seen other social media accounts do this - and every single time it’s probably had some kind of effect on you.

That’s great, right?

Social media is for getting reactions and engagements. Likes and comments are some of the best spikes of dopamine you can get.

There’s a huge problem with this. When you do this as a business you are alienating a large group of potential customers.

If the main focus of your social media account is to grow your business - quit having an opinion about everything.

Your clients are following you because they’re interested in how your business can benefit them. That’s it.

They follow your account to see more about your product or service.

The reason you create a social media account for your business is to make money - quit making it harder for yourself.

BTW: Follow me on Instagram. I like all of the likes and comments. 😆

Don’t Be Like StickerMule

You may have seen this story going around earlier last week.

Following what happened to Tr*mp at one of his recent rallies, StickerMule (a popular sticker printing platform), took to their social media and used it speak out against the events…

… then emailed every single person on their mailing list.

This not only pushed away people who don’t align with their politics, but even upset people who may agree, but don’t want StickerMule emailing them about it.

Lesson: When you create a great product - your only focus should be on selling that product.

That is literally all your customers want.

The Personal Brand

What about if you’re main focus is growing a personal brand?

This can get a little more tricky.

If you don’t have an opinion about anything, it can be hard to build a following of people who truly care about who you are.

You have to represent something.

This is where you need to pick and choose what is REALLY important to you.

“Don’t have an opinion about everything” is still very relevant here.

Pick a few topics that you feel strongly about (and hopefully align with your product or service) and find customers who will support that cause.

I would recommend staying away from extremely serious topics, and focus on ones that are important to your industry.

For example:

Some people hate pineapple on pizza, but they’re still going to do business with you even if you love it. 😅

You’re All Caught Up!

That’s it for this week!

My friend Gary Simon has recently launched a course that some of you might be interested in!

It’s a course that will teach you how to take your designs from Figma, and make them a reality in Framer.

Zero code and perfect if you’re building websites for yourself or your clients.

Use code FRAMERLAUNCH for 30% off

Note: This is not an ad, I just really like Gary and the work he puts into these courses. 🔥

See you next week!
